History

Chickenpox was first described by Muhammad ibn Zakariya Razi, Persian scholar and physician. He was also an expert chemist, alchemist and philosopher. He was born in 865 and died in 925. He wrote about 200 books and articles on various topics on medical science and other studies. He performed a number of medical trials and research and identified a number of diseases.


Muhammad ibn Zakariya Razi described smallpox and measles and it was Giovanni Filippo who identified chickenpox.
